Mebar Skid Plate

Somewhere for Danny to let you all know about what they are cooking at Mebar!!

Mebar Skid Plate

Postby Danny » Sun Oct 18, 2009 11:22 am

The Mebar Skid Plate prototype is nearly finished! We have completed the steel frame we're working on the design for the aluminum plate. Im hoping to test the plate out this weekend!

We have also decided to make some changes to the design of the skid plate. The skid plate will extend all the way to the rear of the engine. There will be a hole in the plate to allow easy access to the engine oil drain plug. We decided upon this design to ensure that both the front diff and engine oil pan are protected.

As soon as the aluminium plate is finished, i will post up pics of it on the car!

Cheers,

Danny

Unfortunately, we had to delay the skid plates because i had to fix my car! Good news is that Rashad has promised me the the prototype will be finished by the weekend! The fabricators are finalizing the frame now. As soon as they have finished the welding, i will post up pics of it! I know that this product has been delayed, and i apologize for the frustrations that this causes! I fully understand because i need a plate on my car too! I went out yesterday without even the stock plate on! Hang in there guys, the plate is gonna be worth the wait!

Cheers,

Hi Danny.
Did you guys get to fit the skid plates on to the cars ???

Please update this thread with pictures if possible.

I am interested in getting one of these.

BTW i think my headlights need to be adjusted to compensate for the lift. Do you guys do this ?

We have finished the frames and the plates, but we have a problem!

We drilled all the holes, and we want to flare them, but the plates dont fit into the press machine!

We are currently making a new press jig so that the plates will fit in.

I will take pics and post them up as soon at the whole thing is completed.

Danny

Sorry guys, i was super busy yesterday!

Went out on Monday night to give the plate some punishment! Im pleased to report that it took everything that i threw at it!

I deliberately bottomed out on tracks at 80-90 kph and the plate easily took the force of the impacts, over and over again, without a hint of bending!

I will take pics and upload them today.

Im going out for one final test over the weekend, and then we are gonna kick start production!

The plates will officially go on sale on Jan 1st.

Cheers,

Danny

Did the frame of the skid plate contribute to any chassis rigidty? Did you feel a difference while driving?

Xmas happened! lol

I did take some pics but the quality was crap so i didnt post them up!

We are pretty busy with cars, and we are also in the process of moving, so things are really hectic here!

I will do my best to take some better pics today, i really want to take them on the car when i am in the desert, but trying to get to the desert before it gets dark is pretty difficult! I will do my best to do it today, and post them up this evening.

On a side note, we also have a Facebook page now. Search for 'Mebar Auto' and you will find us there.

Danny

Hey Everyone!

OK, we took some pics, of the plate on a car:
P1405_29-12-09.jpg

P1403_29-12-09.jpg

We also took some videos of a test that we did. We put the frame for the skid plate on the ground, and drove over it! Absolutely nothing happened to it! Shame the same cant be said for the AF skid plate, as we flattened it!

Pricing for the Mebar Skid Plate will be AED 2,900

Installation is a little tricky, because unfortunately we have found out that many cars actually have slightly bent chassis! So we have decided to split up the installation rates:

If your car's chassis is straight, installation will be AED 225.

If your car's chassis in not straight (therefore requiring customization of the skid plate mounts) installation will be AED 450

I am going camping in the desert over new years, and i will be doing the final testing of it. Be assured guys, im gonna hit it HARD! If it survives on my car, it can survive anything!

I will post pics of the frame tomorrow.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Years Everyone!

Danny

It is possible, but any coating will come off as soon as u hit something. Thats why they have been left unpainted.

The weight of the complete skid plate, including the frame and the plate is aprox 20kg.

Remember though, that this weight is low down, and i can tell you from experience that it doesn't effect the handling or performance at all!

It just protects your car, and allow you to drive in the desert without fear of breaking your car!

Cheers,

Danny
