Desert driving workshop in January '09

Postby fjuae » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:46 pm

Hey everyone!

I am in the process of recruiting a professional rally driver that will be racing an FJ Cruiser in the 2009 off-road rally events.

What i am planning to do is hold an off-road workshop day in January somewhere like Pink Rock - we'll have base in the valley where we'll set up camp...(get the BBQ going)

What we'll do is get everyone interested along with their own cars then get the instructor to go with you one at a time around the local area showing you how to get the most out of your car safely and efficiently. We'll also have a workshop at the base where we can work together learning safe recovery and tyre changing. The good thing about this area is you can also go off in the immediate area and have some fun while still being close to the base.
It doesn't matter whether you are a complete beginner or a part-time rally superstar i am sure we can all learn something from this.

What will make it even more exciting (and different for here) is it will be a free event... All you have to do is bring some food and drink and maybe a tip for the instructor, (i will cover the cost of the instructors.)

What are your thoughts? I hope several of you are interested.

Regards
Ed

Sounds good to me but I can't confirm for sure yet if I can make it. I think some instructions by a professional offroad driver will make offroading for us a lot safer and will cause less harm and fatigue and stress on our vehicles. I am sure that all this climbing and wheelspinning and getting stuck and jumping and holding cars in low gears at high revs etc by inexperienced offroaders like me is causing a lot of parts on our vehicles to age prematurely which in the long run means big bills at alfuttaim.

Love the idea. But it would be great if we could chip in to the instructors fee too.

Thanks Wasif, any help can be in the way of tips...

It should be fun and also a first for off-road clubs here, I haven't heard of any others doing this for their members...

My principle from the start was to make the club enjoyable for everyone and accessible(as long as you had an FJ) without having to pay to have fun!

Ed

Not yet Jimmy, i'm still in the plannings stage.
I will organise so everyone has plenty of notice and don't mind pushing it back to February to make sure people can get a clear weekend.
Depending on the interest, i may do it over 2 weekends?

Will keep you posted as more details become available - this will happen, just want to do it properly.

Thanks and regards,
Ed

I am a new member and this is my first posting.

I am very much interested Ed to attend this workshop, despite several years of experience in the desert. i look forward to your posting. One comment is that if you are planning such an event on a Friday, Pink Rock may be too busy especially on the second part of the day.

Sony Errickson Challange?.....U mean the 'Completly fixed and stiched up Robbies Challange'?

How it is possible to record less milage on the car's odomiter when driving in the desert, then it shows in a straight line on a GPS is beyond me....unless of course, the car has larger tires and hasnt been regeard.....?......hmmmmm Why are all calculations not taken from GPS units?....

danny dnt be allergic to robbies/anything else

i like you dont make me change my mind, focus on what i say and not what you percept.

forget the odometer, you will only be following so dont mind anyhing other than not losing kane. dont worry about ur gears, wheels, rims nor odo. cool?

kane will take a drive through the dunes he chooses and he will care only about losing you.

sonyericsson was an example coz it combined most of the highest dunes in shj/dubai

am i clear now or still robbies challenge makes u sneeze?

So what happens when he gets stuck? i have 2 get stuck 2? :D Am i allowed to overtake? :P

Ur rules were clear, of course i understood them, i just voiced my opinion on the sony errickson challenge, a topic which you brought up!

As for the whole 'i like u, dont make me change my mind' thing.... i dont even have a clue who u r (Aboud?), so pleae dont flatter urself my assuming that i care!

And lastly, about Robbies, i myself have never been there, but i have seen many cars that have and the work that they have had done is shocking in some cases, and occationally, damn right dangerous! I am not claiming my opinion to be fact, it is just my opinion! I advise others to gather as many opinions as possible, and come to your own conclusions! Thats what this forum is all about, a place for people to share their knowlege and experiences!

OK, so where us ur bf Aboud? is he game?

you are out of your tiny fucking mind!

who the fuck are you to make such sweeping general accusations about other peoples work! if you have never been there and dont know them dont reley on secondhand information.

i dont post judgement on you or anyone that goes to mebar or comment on the standard of there work as it has nothing to do with me! as i have no first hand experience you are a sad little man!

i wouldnt start makeing comments about the quality of your work having never seen it so you should not pass judgement about others. but im sure all the guys you give cockmeat sandwiches too at jules bar are very happy!!!

I am not makin general accusations, i never once pretended to have seen all the cars that Robbies has worked on! I have seen SOME cars that have had work done there, and 2 cars that i have seen.... well lets just say that one of them got a little hot under the hood.

But enough of all this, im not gettin into arguments with you about this kinda stuff all the time.

Enjoy ur car nd i hope it runs great!

Cheers,

Danny
